A campfire is often a communal event. We sit around it and while late at night it gets warm from the front and cold from the back, we stare into the flames and wonder how much or how little has changed during the development of human civilization. With Re:Fire we tried to figure out, if the experience of the communal outdoor fire can be adapted to our current style of living. What kind of impact does the source of energy that feeds the fire has on the atmosphere around it? For the event at Wave Farm about 20 people downloaded animations of flames, sparks or smoke (including burning and crackling sounds) on their phones, i-pads and laptops. We stacked those devices on the wood structure and let them burn, until all batteries were dead.
