Buzz Cut

novella, 56 pages, black and white with photographs, published in 2013

Buzz Cut follows eteam’s trips to Mars and Moon, two small townships in Pennsylvania located along the Ohio River not far from Pittsburgh. As the narrators keep switching modes and methods of observations – from seeing with the eyes and tools of documentary film makers, cultural anthropologists, geographers, conceptual artists, parents and tourists – the towns of Moon and Mars present themselves in a variety of ways – in the case of Mars as a new, thriving, fully simulated training ground for eventual living on the planet Mars, and in the case of Moon, as a neglected and discarded dream, an old frontier nobody cares about anymore.
Buzz Cut has its launch pads firmly stationed on the ground in Pennsylvania, but once a terrestrial observation has been sent far out into space for testing, the reader becomes aware that being human is not a biological predetermined fact, but a praxis.

REVIEW
“Landing on the Moon’s airport… adventurous walk down Main Street Mars… culminating with a flying saucer. Buzz Cut is an opportunity to travel, experience and through the very descriptive usage of words one can vision one’s self being served a bakery treat by a robotic arm of the crane lady. I found myself among the people of strange new found worlds located right here on Earth… The Martian community’s knowledge is centered around a Barber’s Pole. An entertaining and enlightening read… providing interaction with real people of Moon and Mars…. An interesting perspective and a display of brilliance by the eteam. Space is the place… I give Buzz Cut 5 stars… orbiting … Moon and Mars…”   — Henry J. Casolari
